Recently we have encountered an issue where some users who are updating to Windows 10 are having their HoudiniEsq service and its environment variables removed as a result of port 80 being used by the operating system (likely a result of Microsoft IIS).
If you are unable to access HoudiniEsq after updating to Windows 10, first ensure that the HoudiniEsq service is still present. Open your Services list (or go to the Services tab in Task Manager) and check to see if it is present. If you need instructions on how to access the services menu, click this link: HoudiniEsq Service (Starting and Stopping)
The HoudiniEsq service will be either titled LogicBit HoudiniEsq, or simply HoudiniEsq if it exists. If neither services are shown, then it has been removed by the update.
If the HoudiniEsq service is missing, you will need to download the following file:
Windows HoudiniEsq Service Install Utility
Unzip the file and run it, and it will recreate the HoudiniEsq service. It will also automatically start the service after it is finished.
Next, check your bookmark. If you still cannot get to the login screen, you will have to stop the HoudiniEsq service and change the port that HoudiniEsq is running on. For more information on modifying the HoudiniEsq Connection Port, click HERE.
Be sure to write down the port you change it to, and update your bookmarks accordingly. Then restart the service and you should be able to log in.
