Backing Up HoudiniEsq (On-Premise)

HoudiniEsq is extremely easy to back up, as all of the data is centralized into one folder. This folder, the “esb” directory, is present in both OS X and Windows installations and contains all data, documents, templates, and staff login information. This guide will walk you through the process of copying and restoring this critical folder.

Back Up Procedure

  1. Stop the HoudiniEsq service.
  2. Navigate to the following directory:
    1. Windows – C:\Program Files (x86)\HoudiniEsq\webapps\houdini\
    2. OSX – /Applications/HoudiniEsq/webapps/houdini/
  3. Copy the folder labeled “esb”.
  4. Paste the folder to your desired backup location.
  5. You have successfully backed up your HoudiniEsq data!

It is recommended to do this procedure as often as possible, at least once per day is recommended. You can also set up automatic backup of this folder to occur as well, but we advise to do so only when the application is not in use, such as after operational hours or overnight.

Restore Procedure

In the event you need to restore your HoudiniEsq data, simply reinstall HoudiniEsq from our Downloads page. Once reinstallation has completed, follow these steps:

  1. Stop the HoudiniEsq service.
  2. Navigate to the following directory:
    1. Windows – C:\Program Files (x86)\HoudiniEsq\webapps\houdini\
    2. OSX – /Applications/HoudiniEsq/webapps/houdini/
  3. Delete or move the folder labeled “esb” from the /houdini/ directory.
  4. Copy and paste the backup “esb” folder into the active /houdini/ folder.
  5. Restart the service and log in.

Note, if restoring to a new machine, you may have to relicense the product after logging in.
